San Fran, Part I
An absolutely wonderful vacation.
Visiting dear friends + celebrating the boy and my anniversary + getting away from the routine of day-to-day life = a mightily refreshed Maggie.

Home from San Fran--tired, but oh so happy. I'm still sorting through my photos, but I love these ones of our hotel room and floor. The whole thing was pink! Luckily not bubblegum pink, but different variations of that dusky rose color I've been so in love with this Spring. A little strange, but not bad at all.

I found my Minolta Autochord! Don't ask me how I managed to misplace an item as lovely (and as relatively large and heavy) as this baby, but it is indeed found and after an approximately 3-year hiatus, I am beyond excited to start shooting 120 film again. I foresee lots of TLR fun this summer, that's for sure.

The boy and I are leaving for a much-need vacation to San Francisco tomorrow. Just like with the camera (although even more so for this one), I am beyond excited. I'll be back in a couple of days with hopefully lots of photographs to share.

My free time lately has consisted of:
-Blasting this amazing new album,
-Slicing melons and letting their sweet smell remind me that summer is coming,
-Marveling at how quickly May is flying by,
-Contemplating food politics while reading this thoughtful book, &
-Chasing sunspots with my camera over just about every surface in the apartment.

What have you been up to?

City walking, to and from work.

Planting more herbs, even though recently the cat accidentally knocked my lovely basil off the sill and killed it dead. She was pretty interested in these guys as well, but I will not be deterred. There's something really wonderful about having growing things in the house, especially such visually appealing and aromatic ones as these herbs.

Weekend Pairing - Mother's Day

This band suits the mood perfectly.

"Weeds" outside my apartment.
The bell-flowers and creeping vine (morning glory?) looked straight out of an Art Nouveau illustration--very inviting.
All I could think about while walking past the thistle patch that is literally as tall as I am was how unbelievably scary it would be to trip and fall into it.

What's on yours?

Having some quiet time to read in the afternoon (with my favorite afternoon light) feels so luxurious. I just finished White Fang and now I'm on to Call of the Wild, with the short story To Build A Fire right behind that. I don't know why I never read Jack London's books in grade school--animal "adventure stories" that aren't sappy and sentimental, what kid wouldn't love that?

Weekend Pairings - Changing Pace

-Usually when I have a weekend that looks to be free of plans, I go so crazy cramming in all the errands/chores/projects that I haven't been able to work on during the week that my weekend ends up just feeling like more work.
-That didn't happen this weekend.
-We lazed on the sofa, reading and napping.
-We went to the movies.
-We saw friends.
-We didn't do anything in a hurry.

-It was great.

-I feel like May is going to be a good month, and this is my intention for it: to remember this change of pace, this slowing down.
