January 3, 2011

A few small bits of what my Christmas looked like.

I was feeling sad
that the whole lovely thing was coming to an end,
and my Mum reminded me
that the holidays
are the blossom of the year,
and that you can't love something only when it blooms;
a reminder to me
that it is good to tend the year
lovingly and mindfully
until it's time for it to bloom again.

(She is a wise woman, my mother).

Here's to a wonderful 2011!

  1. i want to hug your mom, as this sentiment brought tears to my eyes while at the same time, lifted my spirit. i too fell into a bit of a melancholy when this season came to a close... but then, i think it's okay to mourn what did bloom while still looking toward the coming year and all the planting and watering that is waiting for us. i can't wait to get my hands dirty again :)

    your photos are absolutely magical. i want to live inside the kind of peace they portray in this series.

  2. What a beautiful idea. The end of the holiday season made me a tad bit sad too, but this made me smile and think about the next holiday that will lift our spirits. Thanks!

  5. Your mom gives good advice! I always feel a little bit sad at the end of this season but I think that makes me appreciate it more and makes me vow to do more and more fun holiday-ish things each year.
