It was only after
I took this photograph
that I discovered
the name
of this spool of thread
to be "Old Rose."
I thought that was quite fitting.

Who else is excited about this?
I have my copy pre-ordered!

Out to breakfast with a dear one.
I've been missing breakfast lately--
slow and leisurely breakfasts
are impossible on early mornings
where I am up and out the door,
making sure I catch my bus.
My new job
begins earlier than my old one,
so my morning routine
is still in transition.
On the weekends, I think,
I will try to do breakfast,
do it up special and hearty--
whether at home or out.
It is my favorite meal, after all.
What is your favorite special breakfast food?

Vetiver - Worse For Wear
(The Errant Charm,
and this song in particular,
havebeen sounding
like Summertime to me).

With great friends
visiting from California
we went exploring out of doors,
and the bounty we found
was a continual reminder
of how much I am
a Pacific Northwest girl.
Born, raised, and still residing
in this green place,
when I think of leaving,
of someday living in another state
(which very well may happen--
I love to travel,
and there is so much in the world to see)
it does feel like contemplating
moving away
from another family member,
and I feel certain
(amazingly so),
that no matter where my path leads me
I will always
eventually return home.

The name of this bakery
had been mentioned to me
(directly and in passing)
by enough different people
that I finally had to visit.
We stopped by,
on our long drive home
and we bought a pie,
a whole pie,
which is something I don't think I've ever done
(as I much prefer
to bake my own)
but it was friendly
and artful
and delicious
and I felt like I was eating it
with all the people
who had told me of the place.
(We also bought lemon bars,
but we ate those in the car.)

To me,
this is what an evening in Summertime looks like.
And that's Summertime with a capital S.
We're going back soon.

This past weekend
was jubilant and glorious,
life-affirming.
I am sun-burned
all over my body,
but I don't give a damn.
It was, I think
a good way to celebrate
a new beginning.
Thank you all for your sweet comments,
and I hope your weekends
were wonderful as well!
Onward.

I haven't had much to say
in this space recently--
I have been too busy
to formulate my thoughts.
I begin a new job on Monday
and I am nervous and excited together.
The boy's new job this past January
significantly altered the patterns
and the flow of our lives,
so I am curious
and just slightly wary
to see the new form our lives will take
with this most recent change.
I am
undoubtedly
a creature of habit and routine
but I am looking forward
to discovering
where this newness leads.

Purple in the shadows,
purple in the reflections,
purple in the highlights.
Must be summer.
